Big news! I've moved!

We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.  --  Walt Disney

I've moved!  Yep, I finally pulled up stakes in Chicago and returned to my hometown of St. Louis. Now while you may think moving back would be a simple matter, it wasn't.  I've been living in Chicago for 20 years with many friends and colleagues.  Chicago was my kinda town, but the desire to be near family outweighed all else.

My new home is a jewel box, an artwork in and of itself.  Nearly every room features one or more stained glass windows.  The door handles are equally elaborate.  I love the fireplace with built-in bookcases just waiting for me to unpack and fill them up!

While packing, I found many treasures.  Some drawers I had not opened in years.  Looking through them was like entering a time warp.  I could remember who gave me what and why and where I purchased every item.  I like photos, but I find objects are a better memory trigger.  Hence, I have quite a collection which extends from lace to crystal to antique purses.

That bit of writing came from Gam.  She had a great system for keeping track of a complicated pattern repeat.  She wrote out the directions for each row onto a card and then simply rotated the cards as she knitted.  She taught me to knit at the age of 6.  I have all her tools and count them among my greatest treasures.

Moving is a process, physical and emotional, but it is so worth it.  I am happy to be near family and look forward to seeing friends as they come to visit.  Better yet, my studio is no longer in the basement!

Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your home and studio. I love old homes too! And like you am looking to move back to my hometown after 20+ years. I'm sure it's going to be a challenge!

Hi Carmen,

Thank you for your comment. I hope your own move goes smoothly! My own had a few rough bumps, but definitely worth the work.
