Great art picks up where nature ends.”  Marc Chagall

I recently came across the work of Meredith Woolnough.  There are moments in every artist's career when they see another artist's work and think "Holy Crap!  That piece is perfect. Spot on to what I've been thinking and why didn't I think of it first?" Yes, I am slighlty jealous and in tremendous awe of her talent.

Inspired by nature, she uses her sewing machine and water soluble fabric to create these intricate embroideries. The technique is simple in concept and incredibly challenging to execute well.  I've tried and tried, which is probably why I have such an art crush.

But I also just love the patterns themselves.  I 've been inspired by microscopic patterns found lurking below our skin and in nature itself for the past 20 years. Look at this one!

She has a knack for seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary such as this Red Cabbage piece.   I mean how many times have you sliced open a cabbage to see such a sight.  It was always the big drawing challenge in class, but she did it in machine embroidery! support this Australian artist by checking out her website and subscribing to her blog.
