Free Pattern :: Crochet Christmas Stocking

He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. ~Roy L. Smith

I don't know about you, but my favorite bit about opening Christmas presents was always the Christmas stocking.  Great things come in Little Packages -right?!!  I enjoy it even more now that I get to play Santa Claus to my daughter.  One needs a Christmas stocking to fill with all those fabulous tiny presents.   This is an easy crochet pattern and will take an average of two weekends to make.

Size: 15" from top of boot to bottom of heel and 11.5" from back of heel to tip of toe.

©2016Lindsay-Obermeyer_Crochet_Christmas-StockingGauge: 5sts and 2 rows per inch (always do a gauge swatch)

Stitches you will need to know: Double-crochet, single crochet, slip stitch

You will need:
1 skein of Red Heart Mistletoe Ombre
H /5mm crochet hook
tapestry needle
tape measure
locking stitch marker

Let's crochet!

Start with a magic circle.  But rather than use single crochet stitches. Chain 2 and Double crochet 12 sititches into the circle.  Once finished, tighten the circle.  This closes it firmly at the top.

Round 1: Add a stitch marker, Ch2,1 dc in the same place,  2Dc into each stitch. Slip stitch the last stitch to the the top of the chain-2 for a total count of 24.  Move stitch marker to beginning of next round.

Round 2: Ch2,  *2 double crochet in next stitch, 1 double crochet in next stitch.* Repeat from *to* , slip stitch last stitch to top of chain-2 for a total of 36 stitches.  Move stitch marker to beginning of next round

Round 3: Ch2, , 1 double crochet in the same place, 2 double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, slip stitch last stitch to top of chain 2 for a total count of 48 stitches.  Move stitch marker to beginning of next round.

Rounds 4-11:  CH2, 1 dc into each stitch, end by slip stitch last stitch to top of Ch2. Move Stitch marker to beginning of next round.  Repeat for each round until 11 rounds total.

Rows 12- 20:  You will begin to work in rows now.  #Ch2, skip first st, work in to next st.  1 dc into each stitch for 24 stitches ( which is half of a full round. ). Turn. # Repeat from # to # .  Break yarn (leaving an 8 inch tail  and pull tail through last loop.) Sew back heel flap closed.  Sew in all ends.

You now should have something that looks like this:

Leg rounds 1-21: Slip stitch to the top of the heel flap of it.  #Chain 2, 1 dc into each stitch along the heel and instep.  You will need to work 2dc at the corner point where the heel gusset and instep meet.  When you reach the CH2, slip stitch to the top of the chain 2.# Repeat from # to # until leg is 10.5" (21 rounds).

Finish off the top by working a scallop edge.  Break yarn and pull tail through last loop.  Sew in all ends.

Slip stitch yarn to attach at top back or leg,  chain for 4 inches and attach with a slip stitch where you started. Break yarn and pull through last loop. Sew in all ends (this is the loop to hang the stocking.
