He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree. ~Roy L. Smith

I don't know about you, but my favorite bit about opening Christmas presents was always the Christmas stocking.  Great things come in Little Packages -right?!!  I enjoy it even more now that I get to play Santa Claus to my daughter.  One needs a Christmas stocking to fill with all those fabulous tiny presents.   This is an easy crochet pattern and will take an average of two weekends to make.

Christmas in July :: Inspiration

I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. ~Charles Dickens

It is already the end of July. How are your Christmas preparations coming along?  Now don't laugh.  I am not kidding.  Christmas comes close on the heals of Thanksgiving, which gives one very little time to craft and prepare.  Rather than stress out, I am suggesting that we, meaning you and  me, learn from my mother who started her preparations in July.  Running a catering business as a single parent kept her extremely busy from the 1st of November though New Years, but she was not about to lose out on any of the fun.  She had a room she designated her wrapping room.  When Mom passed away in October, 2008, we found gifts for us already wrapped.  I couldn't' stop crying at the time, but I was so grateful to have that one last present to tuck under my tree.

Free Pattern: Beginner Baby Blanket

©2016-Lindsay-Obermeyer-baby-blanket

A baby is born with a need to be loved – and never outgrows it. – By Frank A. Clark

This is a simple, beginner's level baby blanket.  It falls in the category of tv knitting, you know, that project you can do while watching tv and not get too lost with what you are knitting.  This blanket was designed as a newborn receiving blanket, but could easily be adjusted to other sizes.

Free Pattern :: Crochet Christmas Coasters

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.--- Norman Vincent Peale

There are only 177 days until Christmas.  After years of being the family scrooge, I've decided to follow in  my mother's footsteps.  She started preparing for Christmas in July.  This was partly due to nostalgia.  Christmas was her favorite holiday and the one with the happiest memories.  She also started in July as she owned a catering company and she was working 12/7 from The week before Thanksgiving until the week after New Year's.  She didn't have time to go shopping or prepare the homemade crafts in December, so she got started in July when her business was slower.

Free Pattern : : Slouchy Baby / Toddler / Kids Beanie

So, like a forgotten fire, a childhood can always flare up again within us.  ~Gaston Bachelard

With every hat pattern I've posted, I receive several emails and comments requesting the hat in a different size.  Okay, so I have written this one for a baby, toddler and young child.  I wanted to make a slouchy beanie with a big pompom.  It is a beanie that slides over to the possibility of being a beret but I didn't give it enough slouch to be a good floppy beret which is how I like them.  This is a beanie with a touch of attitude.  I think pompoms are a prerequisite of childhood, especially big colorful ones.

Free Pattern :: Easy, Quick Crocheted Floral Dishcloth

©2016-Lindsay-Obermeyer-Crocheted-Dish-Cloths1

Flowers... are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty outvalues all the utilities of the world. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1844

These quick dishcloths are made using basic double crochet stitches in rounds. The rounds increase gradually to keep the circle flat and finish with a pretty scalloped edge to give them the appearance of a flower. These cloths are soft and absorbent. They are a cute addition to the kitchen and make a great hostess gift. Use them as a hand wash cloth and give as part of a spa gift with gorgeous smelling soap and bath salts.  Consider helping others and make these to donate to a woman's shelter.

Free Pattern: Quick Knit Baby Blanket

The jewel of the sky is the sun, the jewel of the house is the child. – A Chinese saying

This baby blanket is a larger version of my dishcloth pattern, same principals, but enlarged. I had loved making the dishcloths / facecloths that I thought I’d see if the pattern would make a good blanket. It does! I will be giving this one to my knitting ministry to be blessed and given to a family in need ( and yes, I need to block it!) This project is a fairly quick knit. I consider it a weekend project or an hour at night after work and done by the end of the work-week.

Easter is the demonstration of God that life is essentially spiritual and timeless.  ~Charles M. Crowe

Easter is early this year, landing on Sunday March 27, not in usual April.  So if you want to add some crochet fun to your Easter goodies line up.  It's time to get started.  Here are a few fun patterns I found.  They are free, so please respect the designers, by not making the items and selling them as your own, even if it is for your Church fundraiser.

Valentine's Day Welcome Wreath

A smile is the universal welcome. -- Max Eastman

The history of the wreath dates back to Ancient Greco-Roman times the first being worn as a crown.  They were worn to represent rank, status and achievements. While these original wreaths were made of ribbon or fine metals, bay laurel branches were later fashioned into the shape of a circle.  Laurel was associated with the Greek God Apollo and became symbolic of victory and therefore the winning athletes in the original Olympic Games wore laurel wreaths.
